Red Sox Re-Hire Cora After One Year Suspension

Alex Cora managed the Boston Red Sox for two seasons. In his first season, the Sox won the 2018 World Series. In his second, they did not make the Postseason. Shortly after, Cora’s name was linked to the 2017 Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, the team in which he served as Bench Coach. By the end of the offseason, MLB handed Cora a one-season suspension due to expire after the 2020 World Series.

Just over one week passed between the end of the 2020 World Series and the time that Alex Cora was reported to become the manager of the Red Sox once again. Cora beat out interview finalist Sam Fuld for the position.

The deal is reported by Enrique Rojas of ESPN to be for 2 years (through the 2022 season) with club options for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
