Pirates Trade Josh Bell to Nationals
The Nationals acquired switch-hitting first baseman Josh Bell from the Pirates today. In exchange, the Pirates received two right-handed pitchers, Wil Crowe and Eddy Yean. Bell only hit .226 in 2020, but he had an All-Star season in 2019 when he hit .277 with 37 home runs. Bell also impressed with 37 doubles and 116 RBI that season. The Nationals get to bolster the middle of the order to protect Juan Soto and Trea Turner.
In return, the Pirates obtain two young, controllable arms with the hopes of developing each into major league talent.
