Yankees and D.J. LeMahieu Reportedly Nearing Deal
Update: The Yankees and D.J. LeMahieu are reportedly nearing agreement on a 6-year, $90 million contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The Yankees and star second baseman D.J. LeMahieu could reach an agreement as early as today, as reported by MLB.com’s Jon Morosi. Details of the contract are still unknown.
LeMahieu won the Batting Title in the shortened 2020 season, and finished in the top 4 in American League MVP voting in each of his two years in Pinstripes. He is the second ranked free agent on our rankings.
A D.J. LeMahieu and Yankees reunion likely puts the team into the first level of luxury tax (over $210 million in team payroll) for the 2021 season if a starting pitcher is acquired, as expected.
